The Squamish Mapping Group

In collaboration with the HotSpot and other Squamish non-profit groups—including environmental, historical, and seniors’ organizations—the Social Planning Council has been supporting the development of a GreenMap for Squamish as a way of stimulating discussion about social and environmental sustainability issues, and to demonstrate to visitors Squamish’s natural, social, historical, and cultural assets.  The goal is to produce a printed GreenMap in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics and to have an on-line version that can be used for on-going mapping purposes.

The GreenMapping network is an international community of mapmakers who are using maps to identify and discuss important community issues around environment, social justice, and sustainability.  (To learn more about GreenMapping, visit the website at www.greenmap.org).  Anyone interested in learning more about the GreenMap project can drop by the HotSpot on Wednesdays between 4 and 6 pm.
